AMD or NVidia for HTPC
#1
I started my HTPC with a GTX 285 and had good results. I had upgraded to an HD 6850. I do PC gaming on it as well (as of recent I discovered Steam).

I'm looking to make the jump to another GPU.

Is there any real advantage from one to the other? Will both be able to bitstream? Will both work with MadVR? I'm running windows 7 and possibly windows 8 in the future (if the netflix and hulu apps for win8 support keyboard controls).

Thanks,
JOe K.

WOW! no reply for this type of question? I figured NVidia and AMD backers would be in argument by now. Anyone?

That's easy, go with the GTX 660 ti.

Better gaming benchmarks and better drivers.

Radeon HD 7870
If I gamed I would get this one... my brother actually does and seems this is what we will use for an upgrade.

All depends how much you wan't to spend.

I don't think you're going to find a lot of argument because for Windows, either works well and both bitstream. Even Intel and AMD integrated GPUs bitstream. Choose based on performance and price for the games you want to play and application you want to run. If it were Linux, you'd hear NVidia has better support.

As for madVR, this guy's the expert: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1334955/ati-vs...t_20436227 and he says no difference. With madVR all processing is done via software with the help of the GPU so it just needs to have enough horsepower for the madVR features you want to turn on.

I am going with the GTX 660 Ti

Both bitstream so that doesn't matter. MadVR is unaffected. Linux drivers are better which would work in the event I want to do OpenElec. There's frame smoothing with on the Radeon (displayed below)
