Celeron Ivy -vs- Sandy
#1
I want to build a budget friendly htpc and found 2 candidates for my setup. Price is give or take 10 EUR difference:

Sandybridge:

*Intel Celeron G530
*MSI H61MA-E35 (B3)

OR

Ivybridge:
* Intel Celeron G1610
* MSI B75MA-E33

For what setup should I go? Are there any known issues with Ivy setups?

At nearly the same price I'd go for the newer Ivy Bridge build.

And although I have no experience with the newer Ivy bridge CPU, I'd expect it to be just as dependable, with marginally better performance than the older Sandy. My own HTPC is based on a G530, and boy it kicks *ss ... Cool

Real world will you notice a difference? No, but if the price is the same Ivy is a little faster clock for clock than Sandy.

i think those two cpus are almost the same, but the ivy bridge has a better graphics unit.

i'm going to build a new htpc soon, and i think i will go for the g1610

I would go for G1610. Clocked a little higher, 22nm, 10W lower TDP, maybe 24p is a little better (dunno). I don't know what the difference between graphics in the two is, I assume G1610 is better but I havent seen any comparisons.
