Hi guys just to clarify, I can play the files in VLC without a problem on the same machine, but when trying to play the same file within XBMC it plays really slowly constantly stuttering.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Check your audio settings, you're likely trying to play one of the HD audio formats which XBMC is trying to pass through but Windows is reporting this audio type as not supported.

Check Supported Formats in Windows and in XBMC audio settings adjust your pass through "capable receiver" options accordingly.

Alternatively to get XBMC to behave like VLC set the following:

Audio Output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio Output: Directsound

It using a HDMI cable, the settings are all set to use that, any thing else I can check?
