building list for my first HTPC
#1
Hey guys,

Im going to build my first HTPC soon, and this is the list i came up with:
- Chieftec Flyer FI-01B Link
- MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 Link
- AMD A4-5300
- Crucial 4 GB DDR3-1866 Kit
- 500GB 2,5" HDD, still had this, will only be used to install Windows 7, XBMC and uTorrent.
i know it a rather small HDD, but i got a NAS running with 2TB disc, so all downloads will be moved to the NAS Smile

using this motherboard because of the HDMI, build-in WiFi and optical sound.
also gonna get a slim DVD player for my original movies.

am i forgetting anything or do you guys recommend something different to use?

Looks good to me. Sure,...I'd go with at least a A6,..but there's nothing wrong with an A4 either.
Good luck,...and would love to see pictures when you complete the build!

would you recommend the A6-5400K or the Athlon II X4 740?

its 3600Mhz 1024Kb vs 3200Mhz 2x 2048Kb.......

The A6-5400K

I'd also check out the Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heat Pipes. This has a lower profile than the Shuriken CPU Cooler which I also like.
While this isn't necessary (you can always use the stock cooler), you want to make sure either the stock cooler or the Cooler Master will fit in the case height-wise.

What are you trying to playback? It dictate CPU option....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Are those files from blu-ray disc with HD audio, 1080P video and some 3d? If it is, A6-5400k should work....

Super Awesome Build Smile Im also planning on build HTPC with the trinity chips. At 1 point i was thinking of building a NAS cause i think the ASROCK mainboard had like 6 6gbs SATA ports. But i figure HDD's won't benefit from the increased bandwidth so i'll just convert my old Atom HTPC to NAS.
