(SOLVED) DTS-HD sound results in buzzing on 3.9RC6 kernel and HD4000 Intel
#1
So I was running Kernel 3.9RC5 and had no sound at all when I played a DTS-HD file.

I just installed 3.9RC6 and now get buzzing sounds when playing DTS-HD, which to some extent is progress.

What files can I post or what should i look at to resolve?

xbmc@xbmc-desktop:/usr/share/alsa/cards$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.9.0-030900rc6-generic.

See Intel_Linux_Modifications_for_HD_Audio (wiki) for the alsa modifications too.

Ironically, it is BECAUSE I had made those ALSA changes when I was running 3.9RC5 that caused the buzzing.

Reverted back to the orignial .conf file and finally I now have both good, non crushed blacked levels and HD Sounds.

So 3.9RC6 works for both, and the changes to the Alsa conf file are NOT needed. For me at least.

Well non ironically I always suspect user error before suspecting anything else, especially given the tendencies to leave out important information from the support request in forums.

Thanks for marking this as solved now other with same quirks can maybe see this and go check on their handy work.

Indeed. It seems that something broke in kernel RC5 that was fixed in RC6.

Oh well, live and learn.
