been using xbmc for few months now but I had to reinstall windows ,one I'd done this i tried reinstalling xbmc and keep getting error msgs like path does not exist etc

I guess your re-install didn't clear out the old user folder and path ext have changed.
1) manually delete C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC
2) manually delete C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Roaming\XBMC
Re-install XBMC from scratch and rescan your media.
