Everything was working fine before. Now, there is a volume symbol in red with a slash (basically no volume symbol) in the upper right corner of my xbmc main menu.

No sound for anything video, music, etc. I can hear sound for all other programs on my Win 8 laptop, just not xbmc.

I checked the settings/audio output. Nothing stands out to me except that is shows an error-no device found in the passthough device line. Not sure if it's normally that way or not when I'm not using anything besides the laptop speakers. Tried switching audio output devices but none of the options seem to make a difference.

How do I get sound back to my xbmc without having to reinstall everything?

Have you tried pressing the +/= key repeatedly?

Sound like you've accidently activated mute, mute is toggled on/off by the F8 key or use + key to increase volume as advised by artrafael.
