errno 5 when installing
#1
Hi guys,
I keep getting errno 5 when installing xbmcbuntu, it happens around the 75% mark. Its my first install, nothing wrong with the computer. I disconnected all hdd (except the ssd) to isolate.

Live mode runs fine... tried installer in there, no good either. same message.

Im using the amd 12.2 iso, Tried the 12.0 iso and got a different error but still not installing.

Tried USB and CD.

Running out of ideas, help!

Its an Athlon x2 6000+ CPU and a Asus EAH 5450 video card btw. Im running the install again to get full message.

Full error is errno5 input/output error.

I had openelec on prior to this and it worked fine. but not happy with their OS completely..

Presuming you have the XBMCbuntu intel/amd ISO then your out of luck with that.

Try http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=174854 << most advised.

Secondary option.

Or if you really wanna go XBMCbuntu way you need XBMCbuntu beta which is 12.04LTS base and the drivers do support that card. See http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1321833 however use ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-fernetmenta-master instead of xvba ppa in those instructions.

the 2nd option is not updated anymore because Xvba is deprecated. You'll be stuck with gotham ~alpha4 something.

Well not really I noted ppa chnage on secondary option notes to use https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex/+archive/...nta-master inteade of xvba so he/she will be pushed to current alpha12 which is better in any case than xvba.

there is no XVBA support in that... -> no hardware decoding with fglrx

Thanks for that clarification... I'm so glad I never fell for the ATI/AMD "solution"... in any case AMD users and AMD themselves should buy you guys a yacht or some very expensive lapdance....

my GF probably would disapprove the lapdance, but I'd take the yacht Tongue

Bad news for dancers and good news for yacht builders. I suppose that fits, you could have a silly amount of lapdances wih a yacht to your name... hehe even if they from the GF

Right so its a video card issue then i take it? Im at a bit of a loss with the linux jargon

Its a video card drivers issue... AMD in all their wisdom decided to stop supporting HD2XXX to HD5XXX on their new drivers and since Ubuntu 13.10 (what XBMCbuntu 12.2 is based on) they are no longer supported by that version of drivers.

So you need to get a lower version of drivers or use the how-to linked...

XBMCbuntu beta1 was still based on 12.04 which drivers supported that card. Secondary option on my original reply.

However better for you is to follow the primary how-to -- on my original reply.
