Yes, media managers are all standalone products. You're mistaking scraping them for tagging them. If you just want the movie correctly added to your library, basic scraping is fine and dandy. But you want all the bells and whistles of media flag and imdb ratings, etc, you should tag your movies with some type of media manager. Sometimes basic scraping is enough but many times it's not.

And yes, you'll need to reload the movie to refresh it within XBMC but honestly the easiest thing to do is to delete the video database, clean your library and then add all your movies in again. This will refresh everything in one swoop and you won't have to worry about manually making sure you refreshed all the videos. I routinely do this 3-4 times a year, just to make sure my database is always up to date and displaying just the way I want it.

Thanks for correcting me. I've been using xbmc for two yrs now, with the basic theme, but getting deeper into it just now.
I am loving everything about it. The wife thinks i am going nuts over skinning this thing. been working on this late nights as well. its a great community in here.
Thanks for your inputs. I have taken the backup of the database, and will delete the database files.

Please correct me if i am wrong here.. i will read out the steps loud to make sure i am on the right track.
I believe i will have to re-add the movie folder back again using the "files" option right?
Is it gonna ask me to re-scrape everything again from the tmdb scraper? if so should i choose no? and allow it to pick up local content? Reason i am asking this is, i have manually added a lot of fan art and poster from various sources. I am sure if i remove all the database its gonna re-scrape and put me back to a stage where i will have to go back to each movie for which i dont like the poster/fanart and reassign them. or no?

P.S. Also, i use MetaBrowser. i believe thats whats messing up with the tags.

am i supposed to choose just the "tag" option in the mediaelch program?
am i supposed to redownload all the content using mediaelch?

"tag" option is greyed out..

I might not have been very clear. You don't need to retag your files with info you've already tagged them with, you need to reload the stream details so that information is saved to the nfo you media manager creates.

For example, here's a snippet from A Bug's Life nfo. You can see that I have the necessary details to turn on the proper flags.

<fileinfo>
<streamdetails>

<width>1920</width>

Does not look like the tags exist in the nfo. Right?

Right. So you need to use a media manager that will read the stream details from your movies and write them into the nfos. I use media companion, but Ember Media Manager and MediaElch both do the same thing as well. I like Media Companion because the guy that writes it is super responsive, plus it's easily the most comprehensive.

so can i just ask the media companion or mediaelch to create nfo's only minus eveyrhting else? is that possible?

No, it will simply recreate the nfo. In Media Companion you would, for example, right click, rescrape specific, media tags. But I don't even know why you're messing with it. Just batch delete every .nfo file and rescrape all the movies again. Easier.

ok i think thats a good idea. i will just delete every nfo file in that drive, using the *.nfo wild-card option, and then re-create the nfo using media companion. thats a good idea. sounds good?

Yes, that is a good idea. Plus, with MC if the movie already has an nfo, MC won't find it as "new." If you delete all the nfos and rescrape, all the movies will be scraped as new and you can ensure that it got all of them.
