@tripperjones: The Sonos Playbar is hard wired (optical connection) to the TV so that it can get the Audio signal of the TV and share it to the other speakers wireless. I use XBMC (so i guess it is PAPlayer) for playing all my media content. If one of the Sonos speakers is connected to the internet, you can also use the Sonos iPhone / iPad App or the Windows software to play music from a PC or NAS or to play online radio.
