Linux Video streaming server for 50 clients
#1
Hi all,

I am a newbie to XBMC and like you guys to shed me some lights on the setup?
I like to setup a server that will be serving 50 clients.
Should I use NFS for sharing the video library or just use uPnP on the server?
Will the client's video Library be updated automatically if I add more videos on the server later.
Or I need to update the video library on the client's box one by one/ reboot the box?

Thanks,
Wilson

For the scale of that size I would go with NFS + MySQL (wiki). It might be just as easy with UPnP (wiki), but I've never tried it with 50 clients. Either method only requires updating the video library once.

Thanks for the advice. I just tried to setup a Linux NFS server without XBMC and the client will update the video library locally(watchdog plugin was installed). When I add videos on the NFS server, the client will automatically update the video library. Just wondering if this setup is capable of handling 50+ clients? Or should I go for MySQL to share the video library for clients?
