Returned Q1900B-ITX need better graphics for scaling. Please help!

I want to build a new HTPC instead of my E350 Zacate.

I bought a Q1900B-ITX Baytrail and put it in this ACE Proton case:

http://extreme.idg.se/2.1030/1.338013/ac...sta-system
Dimensions: 7.6 cm x 19.2 cm x 22.5 cm

The problem is with Q1900B-ITX Baytrail the iGPU was not powerfull enough since I want to use the more powerfull scalers and I will return it.

My questions are the following:

1. What can be recommended:
Celeron G1840 2 MB
Pentium G3220 3 MB
Pentium G3258 3 MB

2. Are the GPUs in these 3 models "Real HD4000" graphics with 16 EU for Lanczos?
See post #177 in this thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ht=lanczos

3. How height are stock Intel fan? I can't find information and want to be sure it fits in my chassis.

Hope someone will help.

How about a chromebox. I heard thats the best bang/buck and It has a propa haswell gpu so can play anything thrown at it.

Any help?

Question 2: These 3 have 10 EU.

3. I have approx 5 cm from motherboard to case.
According to these link the cooler are between 4,6-5,4. Can someone confirm the exact height so I'm sure to order correctly?

I have considered the chromebox, but the price is too high. And I already have case, memory and SSD.

HD4000 graphics was in the previous generation Intel CPUs called "Ivy Bridge" and available in the i3-xxx5, i5 and i7 CPUs. Other i3s had "HD2500" and Celeron/Pentium "Intel HD"

Haswell, the newest generation, has Intel HD, HD4400 and HD4600. The Celeron/Pentium desktop processors have "Intel HD", i3 has either HD4400 or HD4600 and i5/i7 have HD4600.

The Intel stock CPU cooler is 54cm in height. Intel CPUs already come with one so there's no need to buy an extra one that won't fit anyway. These are the low-profile CPU coolers I prefer:

Thanks for the answer Dougie Fresh. I have read a datasheet from Intel where it states the maximum height of the cooler is 46 mm. Have you measured the fan?
See page 24 on this.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/p...tmsdg.html

The T version of the haswell. Am I correct to assume these have low-profile cooler?
If so perhaps I should be thinking of buying that to be sure about the height.

Last I checked the height of the low-profile Intel cooler was 28mm (1U) and the standard Intel cooler was 2 1/8" (54mm). Maybe in Haswell they lowered the height?

Hi,

I have the same case (Ace Proton / LP-301), and as far as I can tell the cpu cooler height must be below 40mm, so the stock Intel cooler (46mm) won't fit. Cutting the inner honeycomb mesh may get about 5mm of additional fan clearance, but I guess it still won't fit. As far as I know the only Intel CPUs that come with low profile coolers are the 35W T ones.

I'm in the same boat as you, trying to decide between a fanless J1900 motherboard or a low power Celeron/Pentium.

What I may try is to remove the fan from the stock Intel cooler (I have an old one lying around with copper core), so that height gets reduced to about 36mm, and see if can run passive underclocking a Celeron G1840, which is cheap and should be powerful enough for HTPC.

Has anybody tried that?, I thought about underclocking it to 1.8-2.0GHZ and see how it does.without airflow.

Thanks.

Do you mind me asking what material you were playing on the Q1900?

I've just been testing my MSI J1900i with hardware acceleration disabled. It's great with 576i (UK SD TV) and seems to still handle 1080p without really breaking a sweat.

I'm able to select 'De-interlace' as the Deinterlace method and it's far superior to the 'bob' option, when hardware acceleration was enabled.

1. why not G1820?
2. Real HD4000 is built in i3-3225, the Haswell CPUs have 4400, 4600 and HD Graphics.
3. Mine is ~4,3cm (Boxed i3 4150)

Intel stock cooler (46mm from motherboard to top) doesn't fit in that case (Ace Proton), I have tested it myself and it's a no go.

The highest cooler that can fit without modding is about 37-38mm, but the side panel has an inner mesh structure that can be easily cut, gaining about 4-5mm in the process so a cooler like the Scythe Kozuti, for example, could fit (I suggest this cooler because the fan is underneath the heatsink, with other coolers there may be some unwanted aerodynamic noise because of the low fan clearance).

As I told before the option that I may test is to cut the fan from the stock Intel cooler and underclock&undervolt the processor (a G1820/40) to reduce its tdp to 15-20W and see if the heatsink alone can cope without forced airflow, since the case is very well vented. I suppose that this setup should be better than a J1900 in terms of computing power and GPU and the cost is just a bit more (maybe 10€ more).

Apart from that Asrock seems to have released new motherboards with J2900 CPUs, but sadly the EUs in the GPU stay the same, it just has a few extra MHz.
