Pixelated Recording
#1
First, let me apologize for the really long logs...

I recorded Survivor tonight at 8:00 PM (until 9:00 PM), and tried to play it back about 9:30 PM. The first few seconds were fine, then the video became pixelated and the audio was bad. I though it might be a momentary problem, but I couldn't even fast forward to move a little ahead, because the picture just froze.

This has happened to me previously, but I have no idea what may be causing this intermittent problem. Attempting to play back in WMC shows the same problem (however, I can fast forward there), so I don't believe it is XBMC. But any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am still trying to get this all running well.

WMC and SWMC are on my laptop (using an antenna with HDHomerun Plus), and XBMC is on my RPi (running RaspBMC).

it seems like XBMC (ffmpeg) is having issues playing the WTV file which has some corruption/problem at the start of it? Not sure what we could do about this. Try playing the WTV file in other players and in XBMC directly (eg Videos section rather than PVR section) to see if you can confirm. You could also run XBMC on the windows laptop and see how it fares there (in both PVR and Videos areas) as a comparison between windows vs raspberry pi for XBMC.

Also as an experiment you could also configure ServerWMC with "remux all recordings" setting and then see whether our remuxer can make better sense of the WTV file than XBMC could. However you don't really want to have this setting on all the time (as it will hamper your abilitiy to fast forward if the remuxer hasn't processed that part of the file yet etc)... it would just be an experiment to see if you can get it to work at all

Thanks for your response.

I had attempted to play that file in XBMC and WMC on my laptop, with the same poor results. As I said, this is an intermittent problem. I recorded another show last night that was perfect in every player, laptop or RPi.

I removed the "remux all recordings" setting in SWMC to fix another problem I was having with fast forwarding in XBMC, per Krusty's recommendations (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1807375), and don't really want to go back to that. Do you have any other suggestions?

Almost all of my issues in XBMC are related to using the RPi. This is currently the only exception.

the remux all recordings was just an experiment to see if the remuxer could make sense of the WTV file, not suggesting you actually enabled that option for anything other than debugging your problem WTV file.

Anyway it sounds like the WTV file is corrupt, as proven by playing it back on multiple machines and using different programs. Simply put, WMC seems to be more tolerant to this than XBMC is. Not much we can do. I guess you need to focus on why the WTV file was corrupt, which is down to your tuner, WMC and your hard drive. Do you notice any commonality in channel or time of day? Or other activities you are doing when the recording in question occurred?

Thanks so much for your response.

The files I've found that have had a problem were, so far, from CBS, on different nights, at different times. I am using my laptop almost all of the time anything is recording (from any stations).

If it is a weaker signal from CBS, would it matter if I am using the laptop for other things while that station is recording?
