I'm about to get a Fire TV and am debating whether to root it or not (if I'm able to). I'm wondering what are the advantages of rooting or the disadvantages of not? For me personally, my main wants are Plex and XBMC, but this discussion doesn't need to be limited to just those purposes.
I believe that you can still sideload XBMC and have it on the homepage through Llama even on the newer firmware. Plus, I've seen workarounds that allow you to use the USB port for external storage on a non-rooted device.
So, what are the other primary considerations when deciding to root? I'm new to a lot of this, so my best guess is the ability to block the firmware from future upgrades in case Amazon wants to disable the ability to sideload XBMC.
Thanks for the thoughts.
