Hi! I just started using XBMC and I have to say it's beautiful! So much better designed than WMC.

I'm having a problem though. I have a few channels that work fine in WMC but are just a black screen that is constantly buffering in XBMC with ServerWMC backend. The logs don't seem to suggest much (But then I have no idea what I'm looking for)

It looks like the channel is flagged PROT_COPY_ONCE which means you can only view it in a DRM enabled application like WMC itself. You cant record it and play that elsewhere (which is essentially what we are doing to play these channels in XBMC locally and remotely). ServerWMC will only work with non copy protected channels. Apparently it depends on your cable provider as to which channels they flag with DRM... if you are lucky its just premium channels like HBO etc but some providers are bastards and flag all/most channels.

that said it does seem a bit weird because it's not being seen as a DRM or encrypted channel but at the same time the copy flag is PROT_COPY_ONCE... so im not sure. If you make a recording of the channel can you play it back? If you look in the TempSWMC directory while live streaming the channel, can you play the WTV file in a media player like VLC? And how about the TS file check if you can play that in an external player also...

Thanks for the response!! It seems my cable company (Time Warner) puts the flag PROT_COPY_ONCE on all non over-the-air channels. Therefore making all channels DRM complaint channels. You cannot receive them with a non DRM receiver (WMC or their box). I just canceled my subscription.

Ah yep I've seen other posts on here about TW... I don't know if you have any other providers you can choose from but if you search the sub forum here you should find some previous conversations that might indicate some other providers who only copy protect premium channels
