One more thing I could think of is if i had port 9080 forwarded in my router settings would that cause any issues with sharing the folder

access to the shared folder is through SMB which uses a different port. So if you have a setup such that you have to allow traffic through to the server you would need to allow 9080 (for socket communication to ServerWMC) and also SMB (port 445 on tcp and udp i believe) for the file share access

So since it is a different port does that mean forwarding that port in my router setting has no effect i had 9080 forwarded in my router settings that's why i am asking

port 9080 is needed for the clients to talk to ServerWMC and SMB is needed for the clients to playback live TV and recordings, so you need all of the above to be open between your client and your server

why are you forwarding ports? I had assumed at this point your were on a normal flat LAN - if you have more complicated setup please give a full rundown of everything and how they are connected etc

Right now I have my windows 7 computer which is my ServerWMC Backend setup with a static ip at 192.168.1.8. I have forwarded ports 4040 and 9090 on my router for music and to setup WMC recordings remotely. A while ago I forwarded port 9080 to see if I could access ServerWMC away from my home network but it didn't work port the port 9080 was closed on my router but not my windows firewall on Sunday. Because of that it looks like now only newly recorded shows fail until an older recording is played but i haven't had a lot of time to test that so i might be wrong. I should also note that I have had this issue since September and back in November I had to reinstall windows due to a drive failure.
