Thumbs Up
Was running XBMC (Gotham), upgraded to Kodi and it'll start... but then barf out within a second of flashing up the home menu.

Details here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/9665166/

Guess it's something simple - hope others can recognise it from the log.

Oh, happy new year, BTW! Hope everyone had a great celebration, and that 2015 brings wonderful things new!

Remove your asound.conf / .asoundrc reboot and retry.

Edit: Will be fixed in 14.1 https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/6070
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Brillant! Works now, thanks!

Well, semi. The /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc were as a result of this post: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=175631 when I wanted analogue sound rerouted from the speaker ports down the HDMI cable to come out of the TV.

Is this possible using stock Kodi now? I've seen the settings in SYSTEM>Settings>System>Audio but are uncertain what they all mean. I found once I'd applied those alsa workarounds, I had the underlying OS rerouting everything out through the HDMI port, so I guess XBMC (then - Gotham) was none the wiser about the sound redirect.

(Is this a topic for another post, or just an extension of this issue? Granted, I can watch TV now, so the sound issue I can live with for a bit - just running on external speakers for now)

Answer: yes. My TV appeared in the "audio output devices" drop-down list and I picked it.. and it works!

No more faffing around with alsa sound, etc - all worky out of the box.

Yet another thanks to the Kodi team for their advancements!
