I've noticed that Kodi only tries to connect to MySQL during startup. Sometimes, for instance after a power loss the clients will start faster than the server.

Is there a way to trigger a MySQL connection from a Python script that monitors if the server is online or not? Without restarting Kodi.

Yes but thats only during boot and not afterwards. This will also only check for a network connection and not for the MySQL connection.
