DVD/Blu ray player
#1
Hi all,

I currently have a raspberry Pi 2 with Openelec 5.0.6 and Kodi Helix installed.
I read somewhere that blu ray discs are now supported but i think that was only windows?
by supported I mean, reading directly from a disc instead of an ISO or ripping on the fly etc.
so my question is, is this possible with openelec?
could i for example attach one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SE-506CB-R...B00JJGFRIQ
and play dvds and blurays directly from the kodi menu?
if it is possible, would it also be possible to play a blu ray from my windows machine (server) on my raspberry pi (Kodi)?

any help appreciated

Thanks

Only if it is unencrypted, by way of fact 99% of market blurays have encryption on them, so probably not a good idea to invest in a bluray drive atm.

On the other hand, you could use an external player in conjunction with KODI (ymmv)

A quick Google and Urban dictionary states:
Quote: ymmv
Literally means "Your mileage may vary" but is often used in forum talk meaning that your results will vary

Another quick Google for external player brings up this:
Quote:While the built in DVDPlayer (video) and PAPlayer (audio) are capable, out of the box, to handle a huge variety of content, users might find themselves in need of using a different playback software but still using XBMC for scraping and organizing content. Reasons might include improved post-processing abilities, DRM restricted media that requires a specific player (such as encrypted Blu-ray discs), special player-specific features, etc. XBMC has a powerful tool to achieve this, the external player. The current method involves the configuration of a playercorefactory.xml file.

Google-fu, knowledge is power!

If it possible to play unencrypted Blu-ray Disc media in Kodi on Linux by either using MakeMKV or libaacs and libbdplus

Not sure if or how well any of these methods work in OpenELEC on a Raspberry Pi 2 or other hardware. So yes, ymmv.
