Win HTPC Component Wishlist
#1
Hi there,

I'm looking to build a new HTPC from components. I did some research and am looking at the following components so far.

Any thoughts or feedback are welcome.

Full blown HTPCs are a thing of the past, IMHO. Unless you have very specific requirements, such as DVD RIPs, gamer, etc.
Best overall media player for Kodi right now is the Chromebox which is around $160. With plenty of options under $200.

Check this sticky thread on top of first page.

I have to concur. Those components would be overkill for a straight HTPC. Looks more like a combo HTPC/Gaming rig.

From the looks of your wishlist, you've built a gaming HTPC. However, you'll never get a useful answer on this unless you tell people what you plan to do with the HTPC. In this forum, you'll be recommended a NUC, Chromebox or Android box which may or may not meet your needs unless you say what you're going to do with it.

That cooler might be a little tall for that case.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm planning on using it for HD/4K media only, not gaming. Based on the comments, I looked at a few mini-PC like the Chromebox and am now considering the Gigabyte Brix Pro. It's quad core.

I would not worry about 4K for now. Check this forum, mentioned plenty of times including on the sticky thread earlier.
My .02 cents, prepare for the future, which would be a NAS/External storage + Kodi client.
