Ned is correct in regard whether this is a bug or not. We had it enabled in a development version for a short time. That was a bug because it broke things on many systems because there is more work to be done in order to make it work properly.
But this does not mean that this feature request is considered invalid. Please note that implementing such a feature is not only changing a single line of code. If someone wants to implement it, I am sure it will be considered. Will I implement it? Not in the near future. On the upper part of my todo list are things like hevc decoding for vaapi and making hevc available to vdr/vnsi.
