Android Nvidia Shield Android TV (Updated Jan 26 2017 - 5.0 update)

I take this as confirmation that long press works on at least come CEC TVs? Fantastic!

I think it's less a TV problem than a firmware one.
Many boxes send keydown/keyup messages in quick succession in cec mode, breaking the long press logic.

There is an option to change resolution so you're not looking hard enough in the settings menu. Kodi V17 can't come quick enough. Once this box has bitstream / passthrough of HD audio, it will be awesome. Nightly's seem pretty solid with PleXBMC 4.0.0 Beta 4 also.

Following up on my own query from yesterday to try and force the refresh rate:

I created advancedsettings.xml with an override to set the refresh rate for 25fps material to 25hz and 50fps material to 50hz, dropped it in my userdata folder, restarted kodi and hoped for the best.

Sadly that did not work, output remained at 60hz.

Is there anything else I can try?

I think 25p is not supported by the shield. Can also not get it work. I set my device to use 50p framerate which in most cases running fine. Sometimes it stutters with 25p too, don't know why. I'm using jarvis b2.

Ok, I have just got myself a NSTV and I've got it working well. Something puzzles me though. When I view the system information in Kodi it reports the screen resolution as 1080 x 1920, howver at the same time my TV says it's receiving 3840 x 2160p. Why is that?

Also, whatever movie or tv show I play through Kodi the TV still reports it is receiving 3840 x 2160p.

Is there a way of making the NSTV output the resolution of the source file rather than upscaling to 4K?

@datranquil Good to know, that I am not the only one seeing stutters with 25p videos.

@tyler Durden AFAIK Android has no real support for 4k yet, so the Apps see only 1080p; but video playback in 4k works.
As you seem to have a 4k TV, the Shield outputs 3840 x 2160. If you don't want that, you can probably change that in the system settings of the Shield.
If you want to make sure, that 4k videos are send as real 4k, you can use a 4k test video.

Do you know where I can find such a 4K Test Video?

Just found this one http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/26/t...t-pattern/ but it doesn't want to play on Kodi for some reason.

Well that is good news, now I just have to figure out how to force the box to output 25Hz and 50 Hz.

@Hiphopopotamus:

I noticed that in my logfiles too. I think these are only the supported resolutions your TV is able to handle. They are not stronlgy supported by the OS.
Furthermore it is not possible to select all of these framerates in the HDMI settings of the shield which underlines my thoughts about the resolutions.

Those are the refresh rate available to Kodi.
Not all rates are available through the shield settings, but they are via TVHZ.

In V17, will SHIELD be able to bitstream HD audio instead of pass it through? I know it's practically the same thing (besides some subjective volume differences) but just curious if it's possible or not.

Good to know. Any hint why, for example 25Hz, is not used on 25Hz media even if the device and screen is capable showing it?
