Here is the issue with SPMC 16.2.1 and 16.2.0 after I updated my Shield to 3.1

SPMC 16.2.1/16.2.0

KODI 16.1 RC2

As you can see from the above pics, for some reasons, SPMC does not show the movie metadata information e.g 1080/H265/Dolby TRUEHD/7.1/16:9 and etc. While KODI (kodi-20160308-b881949-adddroidPT-armeabi-v7a.apk)

How much space does that hevc rip of fifth element take if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering if I should convert my library to hevc.

In my experience the h265 rips are half the size for the same quality (I keep my 264 rips around 12-18gb which normally gives me a good picture unless it's a really fast or dark movie like the Dark Knight ones). I am also interested to hear what other people are getting.

Okay, so I have x265 Main10 is what I am currently using to archive my dvd's.
Thats HEVC 10bit which Shield is supposed to be able to hardware decode, right? Anyway, they play fine in Kodi (or is it software decoding them and it would choke on an HD file in x265 main10?).
However, while the auto-framerate switching works fine, switching to 23.976, it is still outputting 8bit to my AVR.
So, is 10bit output not a thing? Does the Shield do 10bit output at all or just decoding, then dithering to 8bit for output? I don't see any setting anywhere to enable 10bit output.
(note, I am on the experimental build with TrueHD/DTSMA bitstreaming, maybe it actually works fine in the official build?)

10-bit output only with 4K 50/60Hz. Everything else is 8-bit. In other words, you could say that Shield doesn't have proper 10-bit support.

Thanks for the response. Okay, so do you mean it will output at 10bit as long as the file is 4k/UHD or do you mean it will output at 10bit as long as the Shield is outputting 4k/UHD, no matter the file resolution?
If its the latter, then I can deal with it for now, since that would mean eventually when I upgrade to a UHD display and output UHD from the Shield, then everything will be 10bit just fine. (and frankly my current display is not actually 10bit, so its got to be converted to 8bit at some point anyway, I just like to know when things are not working as it seems they should.)

Is anyone able to get 4K/10bit to their display using the Shield? I've tried playing various 4K content and all of it (via Youtube, Netflix, and downloaded files via Kodi) is showing up only as 8bit when I hit "info" on my display.

Does anyone know a "surefire" way to get 4K/10bit?

4k 10 bit is not supported by the Shields FW yet, but announced by Nvidia to be in the future. Maybe with OS 4.0 Update!?
Kodi 15.2 @ Android TV (Nvidia Shield)
PVR Backend: DVBLink/ DVBLogic with DigitalDevices 2xDVB-S & 2xDVB-C,CI DeltaCamTwin @ UM02 & HD02
Media Backend: EMBY

It is the latter. It will be 10-bit output when Shield's output is set to 10-bit 4K 50/60Hz.

4K 10-bit output has been supported from release day itself. When connected to a supported display, Shield will output @ 4K 10-bit Rec. 2020 50/60Hz.

Hi,

I just buy a Shield TV and I have a logitech Harmony 525 (an old one, with the old software V7 ...)
Everything works correctly after adding Shield TV to the Logitech Software (Play, pause, menu, home, ...) but I would like to change the language/subtitles with the remote (as I did before with my small keyboard using the keymap.xml file)

Is there a way to do that ?

Thanks

It will do it, albeit poorly is my understanding. I'm trying to figure out if it's just a software support limitation or a hardware limitation.
