OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 16.0)
Strange crash while not overclocking and advanced deinterlacing disabled:

http://sprunge.us/aFgD
Finding a way of provoking the crash repeatably would be useful.
There was some evidence of a memory allocation failure on gpu in that log (perhaps due to a leak).

Trying the firmware (start.elf/fixup.dat) from the last reliable build with latest OE build might be interesting.

Anyone experienced infinite stuck scrolling in listbox of items in GUI?

Could you be more specific - what Confluence screen (Movies? TV Shows? Recently Added?) and which view etc.? Screenshot might be helpful. Also identifying the build when this problem started would be good.

I just had the GUI "freak out" on me, while testing scrolling text (which seems to be working normally) in Movies > Recently Added (Fanart view). I left the screen idle for a minute or two with text scrolling, then I pushed left to go from the first item in the list to the last item, at which point the GUI went nuts - flashing fanart and poster artwork on an off etc.

Log (sorry, not debug): http://sprunge.us/LbAP

There is an "insufficient resources" error, followed by several "unable to decode" errors, although according to bcmstat I had 173MB of GPU memory available.

Haven't yet been able to reproduce.

Did it again, this time while scrolling through Movies (Thumbnail view) - however on this occasion the screen is static, no flickering artwork:

Image

There's some text at the bottom of the screen that I don't recognise (hard to see - black text on dark grey background)... could this be font-cache related (added #0716)?

Free GPU mem is 168MB.

Crash log with debug log: http://sprunge.us/WcLA

This is a new test build #0719 (no real changes, just testing build system). I scrolled around Movies (Thumbnail view) and Movies > Recently Added (Fanart view), no obvious errors. I went away for 4-5 minutes, then came back to screen that had powered off. Thinking virtual suspend had kicked in, I pressed the OK button (03:13:36 550.312683 in the log) but this appears to have been interpreted as starting playback of the first item in Movies > Recently Added, then a bunch of errors appeared in the log and eventually kodi.bin crashed.

I'll try testing with a debug enabled build and see if I can get any more useful information.

I've seen this now, most likely a manifestation of the GUI "freak out" - I'm currently testing a debug build #0718x, have scrolled around Movies (Thumbnail view) without any incident, then scrolled through Movies > Recently Added (Fanart view) and left it on the first item with plot scrolling. After a few minutes the scrolling stopped (the plot is actually "bouncing" up and down by a couple of pixels) and the blade menu and other assets are flickering.

While typing this, the "Dim" screensaver has activated (447.962555 in debug-enabled crash-log), and the screen has gone completely black.

Pressing "Right" button has no effect (screen/GUI doesn't re-activate).

Pressing "OK" (starting playback of the second item in Recently Added list, 565.886353 in log) eventually causes kodi.bin to crash.

Will try a build without the font-cache commit, although looking at this particular crash it appears to be gpu/qpu related. However this crash may just be a consequence of some other GPU problem (eg. memory corruption) that has already occurred previously.

I've been testing a build that does not contain PR7495 (font-cache) and so far so good... I've scrolled through Movies (480 posters/fanart) and through Recently Added, no resource problems, no text scrolling problems.

Hi Milhouse,

I too have been playing with the current issues.

1. It’s difficult to consistently reproduce, I have had issues (both interface locking up and application crashing) during active use and after periods of being idle;
2. Often the interface seems to freeze, however, input is still received and debug logged;
3. I can’t see a correlation with memory consumption (using your bcmstat.sh tool - awesome BTW);
4. I downgraded the PI’s firmware as per the following with no noticeable change:

From:
Code:
OpenELEC:~ # vcgencmd version
Jul 16 2015 19:12:56
Copyright (c) 2012 Broadcom
version bc619b5e5aa64f2b5fdd24f6b6a4e61907027a35 (clean) (release)

Would be more than happy to test the new build without PR:7495 (font-cache).
@virtuallysafe: I'll upload Pi1/Pi2 test builds without PR7495 in the next 30-40 minutes.

Unfortunately I can only guess what build you are referring to when you tell me the firmware you are using, that's why we have build numbers (visible if you type "lsb_release"). Smile

I'm assuming your last build is #0714, which - if the problem is due to the font-cache PR - should be OK as it doesn't have this PR, although maybe the recently introduced deinterlace firmware (included in #0713) is causing a side-effect that is fixed by later firmware.

I can provoke the GUI problems in #0718 by navigating rapidly through Movies, then Movies > Recently Added, usually with a short amount of idle time. Still not had a problem so far without PR7495.

Apologies, given the previous context in this thread, I had assumed it implicit - the release is "OpenELEC (Milhouse) - Version: devel-20150714211422-#0714-gdec8e1f [Build #0714]".

Interesting, will try again.

Tops as, will spin it up when the build is available.

@popcornmix: Testing "PAW Patrol.ts" again with "Auto"/"MMAL-Advanced" and build #0718b, and I notice it's skipping a lot of frames, seemingly only during the interlaced segments.

The "skip:" count increases rapidly during the monster race at the beginning, stops incrementing during the Disney Princess advert, starts incrementing again during the Gogurt and Trash Wheels adverts, then stops incrementing again during the Goldfish advert, etc.

My Pi2 is overclocked slightly:
Code:
arm_freq=1000
core_freq=500
over_voltage=4
force_turbo=1

gpu_freq=400
v3d_freq=300
avoid_pwm_pll=1
