I have tried all system settings on both Kodi and android device and still have no audio.

I have it running on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, think I had to kill one accelerator (MediaCodec)...
What you need to do is start a movie playing, bring up the info overlay by clicking on the movie and select the speaker icon at the lower right. Then select Volume Amplification and crank it to somewhere between 16 & 32db then crank the volume as needed. Hope that helps.
