First of all this is not Kodi issue and something like that. And maybe this already exists in Kodi but i can't find.
Depending of subtitle makers sometimes subtitles quickly disappear. Amateur translators making this huge mistake and do not take much care about subtitle timing and duration.
So, you can make an option in Subtitles settings window, in which we can extend subtitle duration on two or few seconds longer when is possible (when time to the next subtitle is blank).
Something similar exists in Subtitle Workshop (Set minimum duration), please check the picture.
