To prevent Kodi from using an old db by accident it would be good to rename the old db after an update. In the scenario I am thinking of the user wanted to rebuild the db from scratch and therefore deleted the new db, not noticing the old db was still lying around (sql in this case). Of course the old db was updated again. This can easily be prevented by simple renaming.

BTW I don't believe having to rename db-old to db is making it harder for people to downgrade.
