On my Linux boxes, Kodi appears to default to using whichever drive is mapped by udev to /dev/cdrom.
While I understand it is possible to configure udev to switch this assignment to a different drive, a better yet hopefully easy to implement solution would be for an additional option to allow user selection of which CD/DVD Kodi plays/accesses/monitors. It should default to /dev/cdrom but permit the user to change it to /dev/sr[0-9] if they are available.
I would appreciate this new feature in a future version. Thank you to all the team - I appreciate your efforts!
