kodibuntu and samba setup

i think this is the last issue to resolve and my new chromebox will be full up and running.
i read through the thread below and its links.

Share with SAMBA as a NAS a mounted USB storage attached with usb cable to Kodibuntu

i am not yet comfortable enough to trust my use of the terminal, to much i still to not understand at this point.

so i tried to instal the samba gui, no go.

here is what i tried:
sudo apt-get install samba (this appeared to work)

from the synaptic package manage i attempted to install systm-config-samba (gui?)
samba now appears in system tools but it does not open.

tried to follow this and run gui from terminal but no go

after 20 something google searches i found this site: UbuntuHandbook
it had just what i needed.
