starting X / wandboard
#1
I have arch linux arm installed on a wandboard. I've used it headless to run my squeezebox server. However, now I'm planning to run kodi on it and have hooked up a HDMI monitor to it. I have installed kodi but not now how to get X working. I have installed Xorg-xinit. When i run startx I get

/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc: line 2: /usr/bin/X: No such file or directory
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

What could be wrong?

You probably are missing the whole xorg-server.

When I run startx I get:

Why are you trying to run X as root? There is no need for 'sudo' to run X.

It would seem that you don't have a DE or WM installed (other than TWM). The default session, in the absence of another WM or DE is to run TWM with a single xterm window. The error message shows that you're missing (at least) one library for xterm to run, so X exits.

This has nothing to do with Kodi. You should probably consult your distro's forums/mailing list or join a general Linux forum to get further help.

You do not need a DE or WM. You can run Kodi (or any other X application) directly on Xorg.

I'm planning to run kodi-standalone without DE or WM. I re-installed some packaged and managed to run startx.

I tried to run kodi-standalone within startx but got a "xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output defaults" error.
Am I supposed to run kodi-standalone with startx on directly in the console?

I also get the following errors in the kodi log

08:22:41 T:1948189264 ERROR: DBus: Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files

Don't use x11 at all ... framebuffer is enough :-)
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

How do I do that?

When I run kodi-standalone (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kodi) I get
ERROR: Unable to create GUI exiting

and the kodi log says
