Solved Kodi crashes when trying to play a video
#1
Hello

I am using Kodi 15.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 and am unable to play any video - Kodi crashes immediately.
Previously I was running 12.04 on the same hardware and was able to play the same videos using Kodi.
I can also play the same videos on my Ubuntu 14.04 laptop, and Raspberry Pi.

The debug log is uploaded to http://xbmclogs.com/peyhqbgsb

Linux distro is Ubuntu 14.04.3, up to date as of 25/11/2015.
Hardware x86_64

paul@paul-desktop:~$ uname -a
Linux paul-desktop 3.13.0-65-generic #106-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 22:08:27 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
paul@paul-desktop:~$ uname -m
x86_64

Installed via PPA

Only Video add-on is YouTube. YouTube videos suffer the same fate.

GIT revision 02e7013 (Compiled Oct 19 2015)

Any help would be appreciated please! I have tried tweaking Acceleration settings as suggested elsewhere, to no effect.
Thanks
Paul

EDIT: I'm not convinced the correct file was uploaded.
This is kodi.log and kodi.old.log respectively:

same here on lubuntu 14.04
updated packages from repositories on 24.11.15
launching youtube just freezes kodi must shut down manually.

Fix your driver. We don't support nouveau at all - if it worked you were lucky.

Now I got it, thanks.
I'm running KODI on an ASUS eeepc box EB1501.
Didn't know of this gpu. I'm no expert but i thought it run a ION-something-graphics.....

You need the nvidia binary drivers - most likely an older supported legacy version. We run fine on nvidia.

reverted back to isengard, to be on the safe side; now everything is as excellent as before the *lubuntu* update...
Note to myself: don't update if not necessary.... Wink

Glad you resolved your issue sprazzi
However you hijacked my thread and my issue remains Smile

I use on-board graphics, not a separate graphics card. From the log I posted at the start of this thread, you can see:
17:05:33 T:139654639085504 NOTICE: GL_VENDOR = Intel Open Source Technology Center
17:05:33 T:139654639085504 NOTICE: GL_RENDERER = Mesa DRI Intel® 945G
17:05:33 T:139654639085504 NOTICE: GL_VERSION = 1.4 Mesa 10.1.3
17:05:33 T:139654639085504 NOTICE: GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION = 1.20
Does Isengard have an issue with Intel?
Surely not.
Is my only option to downgrade to version 14?

Your GPU is ancient and the support kodi needs in v15 is not existent with your drivers.

OK thanks very much I'll investigate downgrading.
(Or maybe it's time I looked into graphics cards!)
