SiliconDust HDHomeRun Networked Digital Cable TV / HDTV Tuner support built-into XBMC
did you try that advanced option mentioned? it should get you past the bug atleast. another simple option is to add them to a .pls file and have atleast 2 streams in there.

The advanced option does not work.
However, I did discover that I can chose Play Using DVDPlayer if I browse to the device. This didn't help much though, since the stream on both tuners again just say N/A.

When I add a couple of the streams to a playlist and go to the Now Playing screen, the only menu options I have are Move Up, Move Down, and Remove.

When I create a playlist file (Two.pls) with two hdhomerun:// entries, I can chose to play using DVD Player, but nothing happen on the screen when I select this, and only one line shows up in the log:

18:31:39 M: 42348544 ERROR: Playlist Player: skipping unplayable item: 0, path [q:\userdata\playlists\video\Two.pls]

The file Two.pls contains these two lines:

hdhomerun://1010E8C2/tuner0?channel=qam:84&program=1
hdhomerun://1010E8C2/tuner0?channel=qam:117&program=3

Have you tried puttin the link in a .strm file?
Reply
yeah that's what I've been doing so far. But with the latest build it is impossible to play .strm files with DVDPlayer.

will HDHR work in the UK? I'm salivating at the idea of xbmc powering my dvb-t viewing.
Reply
i don't see why it won't work...

The qam standard is slightly different in Europe than it is in the U.S., so the current HDHR version will only work in U.S. The makers will probably be releasing a European version later this year, though. In europe there are plenty of other options for streaming to the xbox though, like Tuxbox & Dreambox.

SandmanCL, so whats the verdict? how does dvdplayer work on the streams?

No, I have not gotten anywhere. For some reason I can no longer browse the device (Current stream always says N/A), and browsing is the only way I can force xbmc to use DVDPlayer. I see something in the latest changelog indicating that something has happened on that front, so I'm downloading the 05-07 build now to test.

Holy sh*t, it works ! :-)
Crystal clear picture, great sound. Only two dropped frames after ~ 2 minutes of playing. I even seem to be able to pause like with the tivo but I'm guessing that just means my cache is set high enough that the it has a few seconds in the buffer when I pause.

Girlfriend arguments for why this still isn't as convenient as watching regular cable:

- It takes ~ 15 seconds to "tune" to a station.
- We can't just select a stream to play it since DVDPlayer isn't default.

Great work !! Big Grin

My approach, summarized:

1. Download the latest XBMC build (mine is from 2007-05-07)
2. Create a folder on the xbox or on a samba server called "Live TV"
3. For each channel you want to be able to tune to, create a stream file with extension .strm
example FOX.strm:
hdhomerun://1010E8C2/tuner0?channel=qam:114&program=1
4. Add this Live folder to the Videos section of XBMC
5. To watch, select a .strm file and bring up the context menu (Title on remote) and Play Using -> DVDPlayer

elupus, there's a couple of visual bugs occuring in the stream, not sure whether or not anything can be done about them.

Most apparent, the first line of each frame seems to be containing some other data that shouldn't be displayed. I can hide this line by stretching the UI but then other screens look imperfect.

The other issue is that there is a sort of a motion blur. Still pictures and pictures with little movement look great, but as soon as there's movement there will be visual bugs in the places that move. It can be seen in this picture:

The bugs can be seen on the nose of the guy in the middle, and on the right part of his head.

The scanline I was referring to can be seen in this screenshot:
