The "Display tags/labels for episodes on poster-style widgets" option gets reset every time after I restart kodi. I also wish it just got rid of all tags, I only ever read the title of a video from the top of the widget.

BTW, what do you mean with get rid of all tags ? If you disable that setting it should no longer display tags on posters.
It will display them however for episode thumbs and landscaped widget layout (when no landscape image exists)

I mean also get rid of them on landscaped widgets and such.
