Win [How to] Install Android Kore remote app on Windows PC
#1
I was looking for a nice Kodi remote control app to use in Windows (to control a different Kodi box), but couldn't find one that I really liked. So I found a way to get the Android Kore app working in Windows via Google Chrome.

Here's what it looks like: Screenshot

Step by Step Install Guide:

1. Create new Chrome profile & switch to it
- I recommend creating a new Chrome user profile to install the addons listed below, otherwise Chrome will popup a warning message about disabling developer mode extensions every time Chrome is opened. (Example).
- OPTIONAL: Rename profile to "KORE" in chrome://settings (click 'Edit' button under People)

2. Install the Chrome ARC Welder app
- https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...ngdoccbadn

3. Download the Kore .apk file from Google Play Store
- Many websites are able to download the APK files, this is what I used:

4. Use ARC Welder to unpack APK file
- Open Chrome using the "KORE" profile
- Chrome Apps > Launch ARC Welder
- Choose folder for ARC Welder files (i.e. C:\Kore Remote for Windows)
- Add APK from step 3
- Change Orientation = Portrait
- Change Form Factor = Phone
- Change Resize = Disabled
- Click DOWNLOAD ZIP
- Extract zip file to C:\Kore Remote for Windows (or other folder of your choosing). You can delete the ZIP file after extracting.

5. Load Unpacked Extensions
- Open Chrome using the "KORE" profile
- Goto chrome://extensions
- Check "Developer mode"
- Click "Load unpacked extension"
- Browse to C:\Kore Remote for Windows
- Kore app should now show up in list of extensions
- Click 'Launch' to test

6. Create Desktop Shortcut
- Click 'Details' link for Kore in chrome://extensions
- Create Shortcuts > Desktop > Create

7. Configure Remote Settings & Test
- Description, IP Address, Port, Username & Password
- Same settings that you would use in Android app

8. OPTIONAL: Create desktop shortcut to load Chrome with your main profile (not KORE)
- By default, Chrome will always load the profile that was last used. Using the Kore desktop shortcut affects this as well.
- Chrome will give the developer warning each time Chrome is opened using the KORE profile (but doesn't give the warning when using other profiles or when using the desktop shortcut for Kore.)
- To stop Chrome from launching with the KORE profile, create a desktop shortcut to launch Chrome using your main profile
- Switch to your main profile
- chrome://settings
- Select your main profile > Edit > Add Desktop Shortcut
- You can also change other shortcuts by modifying the Chrome shortcut target
- i.e. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --profile-directory="Profile 1"
- Your profile number may be different than 1
