Emby TV Shows - How To Organize?
#1
I'm not sure if this is a Kodi question, an Emby question or a skin-related question, but I was hoping someone help me understand how to best organize multi-episode shows? There are three series in question which I want to convert to MKVs:

I, Claudius (4 discs)
Firefly (4 discs)
Battlestar Galactica 2004 (dozen or so discs)

Obviously, each disc will have its own set of individual files. I have extracted each disc's set of MKVs in separate subfolders on my Emby server, then put all the folders in a main folder. For example:

Firefly (main folder)
- Disc1 (subfolder)
-- Title1.mkv
-- Title 2.mkv
-- Title 3.mkv
- Disc2 (subfolder)
-- Title1.mkv
-- Title2.mkv
-- Title3.mkv
And so on for each disc...

The problem is I can't seem to display properly when it hits Kodi, or if I even should be listing them as 'TV' in the Emby server in the first place. There's no meta data for each episode, and though I could rename them, they wouldn't necessarily be in the correct series order.

A little help here would be appreciated.

Thanks!

"Firefly (main folder)
- Disc1 (subfolder)
-- Title1.mkv
-- Title 2.mkv
-- Title 3.mkv
- Disc2 (subfolder)
-- Title1.mkv
-- Title2.mkv
-- Title3.mkv
And so on for each disc..."

Did you name them exactly as stated above?

If your answer is yes, then it is a naming problem. You need to follow the required naming conventions.

Kodi
http://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows

Emby
https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV-naming.

Either will do. There are very similar.

With regards to the episode numbering, they are usually in order on the this so it should be simple. However, Firefly has different numbering so check it on thetvdb.com

Ah. Ok, that's probably what it is. I have them in the format of: 'FIREFLY_DISC_1_t02.mkv, FIREFLY_DISC_3_t01, and so on'. Interestingly enough, the thumbnails/fan art downloaded correctly, but again - it's just not displaying properly in Kodi in the right order. I presume they should be TV and not 'Movies', yes?

Finally got it figured out. Apparently you MUST use the Emby convention (SxEx) to get proper metadata.

That said, I'm having trouble with two aspects.

1) Battlestar Galactica has five 'extended episodes' that are kicking the rest out of order. Hope someone can help me out:
- Season 2: Pegasus
- Season 3: 'Unfinished Business'
- Season 4: 'Islanded', 'Disquiet' and 'Daybreak'

2) Firefly - Episodes are listed in a different order than on the set.

Thanks in advance!
