Setting up my first kodi system
#1
Hey guys,

I am just getting started with Kodi and I wanted to make sure I was doing this correctly. First off I am coming from using WMC as my main interface, I just know that in a couple years Microsoft will discontinue support for Win 7 and along with it WMC (I know it's in Win 8, but I don't have that version) and I wanted to start getting to know something new.

So here is what I have so far. I installed Kodi on my HTPC and I am currently using WMC server as my PVR. That all seems to work for now.

I also have a nexus player with the Kodi app. That is also connected to the WMC server so I can schedule recordings. I also added pictures, videos, etc.

For each of my other TVs, I plan on getting additional Nexus Players, however I don't want to have to setup or maintain them individually. Is there a way to get the Nexus players to use the Main Kodi on my HTPC as a server and get all there data directly from it?

Thanks for taking the time to put together this list.

Since multi device setups are becoming very common it would be great if this was supported out of the box.

Since I am just getting started and not really invested in Kodi, I am going to try Plex, or Emby. They seem to be more user friendly and supports a true client server setup and allows streaming to mobile devices. Seems like Kodi is behind the times on this.

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. My setup, that works well, is nextPVR for backend with Kodi for watching and recording live TV. I also added Plex to stream the recorded TV to any smart TV, Phone App or PC in my house. You can also setup Plex for remote access from any PC outside your network. The only thing I need to figure out is how to setup recordings remotely in Kodi. With Media Center gone in windows 10, I am not sure if you will get guide info in WMC server.

I forgot to mention that in nextPVR, I use schedules direct for guide data that Kodi ultimately uses also. 25.00/year.
