Is there any way to clean up thumbnails without losing custom backgrounds and addon shortcut icons??

i don't get it.... i did the "simulation" to check, if the files found and to be deleted were ok with me.
i thought, that was the purpose of that function.
but i can't find them... there was a short message, telling me that around 10000 images would be deleted, if i would run the "delete" procedure, and that they now have been copied.
but where to?
they are not in the folder i specified in the settings.
is that folder just for moving them to IF you decide to delete them?
where do they go in case of simulation?
