I wonder if anyone can help me I'm an intermediate user in Kodi but is there a way I can play a video and return to home/sub menus with video playing in background? I'm sure I had this in the past...

Tab switches the video between full screen and windowed. Once in windowed mode your are free to navigate any where you want.
