Found out a couple weeks ago that Vizio is using their TV for Data mining and selling the information, a company big like Vizio I don't think there's that much to worry about.
Vizio
This make me wonder if are we safe from purchasing all these Chinese hardware?

Not at all surprised to hear, and bet will happen more & more. ISP's (like AT&T) are also studying data packets about our web/streaming activities.

LeEco acquired Vizio for a paltry $2 billion! Based on that I am not sure whether you can call Vizio a big company Rofl

Samsung has also had problems with privacy - Samsung Smart TV spying They have since clarified this issue.

Not worry too much about these known companies, was talking more about these half-baked Chinese products that most people are buying for their media consumption.

I've been meaning to setup a packet sniffer for my LG TV and then block the IP/URLs especially for voice recognition but still allow Netflix to function. Already blocked the TV from auto updating with some dns redirects on the router.

Anyone know how to setup a sniffer using an old router with ddwrt/openwrt?
