FileManager+ (Linux Based)
#1
Hey Guys,

Wouldn't it be a great idea to incorporate a small Linux Distribution with XBMC which would replace / supplement the current file manager in XBMC with the following features:

- Look and feel current XBMC (Reuse skin components / Same keymappings / Same norton commander style)
- FTP Server support to "emulate" normal XBMC-FileZilla mode.
- Reuse Web / Ftp XBMC credentials (username xbox: pw: xbox)
- Reuse existing XBMC drive mappings (C, D, E, F, G,...)
- Samba Server support
- NFS Server support
- SSHfs support
- USB Mass Storage drive support (With all File Systems r/w and finally more then 4Gb)
- Implementation with parts of the HTTPApi (File related functions / Restart / Shutdown functions)
- Simple audio-file playing support (mp3 / flac / ogg,...)
(Not video of course due to the lack of proper Video drivers for Linux)
- Simple to quit (by using the Back button or similar)
- XBMC should be extended by writing it's current state to a file (Logged in Profile / Current playlist,...) and reload when Filemanager+ is exited.

Because of Linux not using the XDK the binary could also be distributed.

Using this kind of distro it would be easy to copy files from your Extenal USB HDD to the Xbox, then switch back to XBMC to play the content.
(And to stream your Xbox media to your PC using Samba/nfs)

The only problem would be the time to start FileManager+ (Would be around 30 seconds I guess,...)

Regards,...

This is not a feature request.
You are asking for a new Linux distribution for the Xbox.
This is the wrong place to be posting such a request, as this is not a Linux development forum. Have you even tried any of the Linux distributions currently available?
