If you like Raspbmc, you'll like OSMC. It is much improved.
Each version of OSMC comes with a 5 year support cycle.

I plan to maintain the project for the forseeable future.

So me being a tech guy that's reads change logs, in what ways exactly is OSMC better than the previous verions? And that's cool that the support is that long!

For God's sake just try OSMC. Try LibreELEC. Then decide. But I agree, if RasbMC rang your bells, OSMC is likely to be the one for you.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Typical Kiwi does not beat around the bush.

Grab OSMC. It's much improved. The software has progressed a lot in just a few years, so it's definitely worth an upgrade. Things certainly won't be any worse. If you do have any questions you can go to https://discourse.osmc.tv and we will help.
