QuickTime 6 support in XBMC?
#16
i'm so sorry....

i guess i was a little tired, lol because i understand this all perfectly - sorry you had to write such a long reply! - sometime my mind does that - e.g. i read mplayer but in my mind i hear xbmp, it's so weird... so, replace mplayer with xmbp in my previous post :d

interesing, i jsut played a .mov file with mplayer, one worked, the other didn't. the one that worked ended up out putting this:
Quote:opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] ffmpeg's libavcodec codec family
i can post the rest of the log too if you want - it's interesting.... but mplayer does play it....
trying to play the same movie in xmbc does nothing... does xmbc output mplayer logs anywhere? this is what i get from xmbc.log:
Quote:20-02-2004 04:25:32 running the application...
20-02-2004 04:26:10 mplayer play:smb://192.168.1.21/ed2k/movies/rose-dec02-viggo.mortensen.talking.against.the.war.in.iraq.mov
20-02-2004 04:26:11 mplayer generated exception!
is there a way to get mplayer to output more info?

mplayer does support more qt codecs than xbmc, but not through open source decoders but instead through libdll loading binary win32 or linux dll's. the xbox does not nativly support dll's but monkeyhappy has managed to get most real dll's codecs working in xbmc with libdll but after some hard work and long time since it's not easy getting dll's to work in xbmc/xbox. so it is possible, and probelt both faster and easier going the dll binary route (only because no open source decoders for qt exists) but who want's and can take the time to code it?

not unless apple open source their codecs.

hi,

but mplayer supports audio in quicktime6 (linux).

why did xbmc not use the windows dll' s ?

because it's not windows.

hi,

is linux = windows ?

i thought xbmc uses the mplayer sources ot playback videos ?
and mplayer (this is a linux player) is using the windows dll' s to play quicktime6 with linux....

linux is an os that's been in development for a number of years. xbmc is not.
if you want to port the windows codecs to xbmc, go ahead.

hi,

when looking into the mplayer sources i was thinking using the windows dll's has nothing to do with the os.

if it is => sorry Image

dlls only load on windows. linux can load them through wine (though nearly all codecs in linux are either native linux or built into mplayer). xbmc has some limited support for dll loading, currently only the wmv/wma dlls work.
