Kodi won't load anymore
#1
Hi,

I my openelec box seems to be crashing and I was hoping to find some help here Angel

--Setup--
RPI 2B connected to a Denon amplifier with HDMI and the Denon forwards the video signal to the TV.
Openelec
Skin Amber

--the problem--
I would leave the raspberry with kodi running 24/7, but recently I have been seeing that it had crached randomly (when idle). It never craches when using kodi (playing music or watching a video. But I would come home and the box would be unresponsive.

Before I found the time to look further into this issue, Kodi has completely crached now.

When starting up, I would see the openelec logo and then the screen would go black.
- SSH is still possible (but very slow)
- the kodi remote on my phone doesn't work

I can see that a lot of new kodi_crashlogs are created all the time in .kodi/temp

Here is the last lines of the log I just took.
- Not sure why there are so many resolutions found....

Any ideas?

And here is the Kodi.log completely

Don't post log files directly to the forum - use a pastebin site like pastebin.com and post the link. I've moved your complete log to a suitable location.

If Kodi is crashing, the information in the kodi.log you posted is not likely to help as it's a clean startup and shutdown - perhaps one of your crashlogs contains a clue (such as an error message as Kodi dies), but to really know for sure you'd need a gdb stacktrace which OpenELEC doesn't/can't produce.

It's possible Kodi is crashing because of a recently added or update addon.

Thanks for moving the logfile.

The crashlogs seem to contain the same info as the Kodi.log, so they aren't very helpfull either.
Here is one:

I don't have many addons running (and I didn't update them in a while) so I am doubtfull it will be one of the addons. I was thinking it might be a hardware issue like a power supply voltage drop or SD card corruption...

It's a little unusual to see a crashlog that includes the Kodi shutdown sequence, unless Kodi is crashing during shutdown...

Unfortunately OpenELEC doesn't include the tools to diagnose this much further.

You can check dmesg to see if there are any messages indicating SD card corruption. Try a different power supply.

I would at the very least run the following commands to start Kodi with a "clean" folder just to see if it is stable:
Code:
systemctl stop kodi
cd /storage
mv .kodi .kodi.bak
reboot

This will give you all default settings, empty databases, no third-party add-ons etc.

Once you have confirmed the "clean" install is stable or unstable you can restore your original setup as follows:
Code:
systemctl stop kodi
cd /storage
rm -fr .kodi
mv .kodi.bak .kodi
reboot

Ok, Dmesg gave me some info. Apparently there is some corrupt data

At this point I think I will just restore a backup to get the system online again.
Do you think I can still use this card? Or should I expect more corruption problems as time goes by?

Personally I would not trust that sdcard anymore.

Re-using the SD card may be possible, it depends what caused the corruption. Not all corruption is terminal.

It looks like the SYSTEM file on the /flash partition is corrupt, it would be worth overwriting that file with the SYSTEM file extracted from the OE 7.0.x tar file - that might be all you need to get you back up and running.

Failing that, and as you've got a backup, then reflash the card.

Although since you've got a backup you might want to try upgrading to LibreELEC 8.0.1.

A word of warning about OpenELEC 8 (latest version 8.0.3) as your backup will be useless now that OpenELEC 8 deletes the users pre-Kodi 17.x databases whenever the system starts. Utterly bonkers.
