v17 Can't seem to add sources

I have tried to install Kodi on my laptop as well as fire tv. Kodi installs, however, when I try to add sources on either I keep getting-unable to connect, couldn't retrieve directory information. This could be due to the network not being connected. Not sure what the issue is, I have verified that the sources are valid.  Any assistance would be appreciated. Just strange it occurs on both.
