There is the existing RPi/RPi2 firmware (start_x.elf/fixup_x.dat from the upstream repository) and also new firmware for RPi4 (start4x.elf/fixup4x.dat), but the upstream code has only just merged and hopefully there won't be any impact on existing RPi/RPi2 firmwares. I would not recommend booting an RPi3 with RPi4 firmware at this time.

EVERYONE: Can you please move the discussion about RPi4 "will it/won't it/can it" into relevant threads, as such discussion is OT for this thread (which is meant for reporting bugs about RPi0/RPi1/RPi2/RPi3 hardware). Eventually we will want RPi4 bugs reported here, but not yet! Thanks!
