Why doesn't IR work natively in XBMC for Windows?
#46
It would be simple if we would exchange IRSS by WinLIRC but then I can hear other people complaining. The right solution would be to abstract the input layer to be independent.
This could be done only for the IR level but this is only half a solution. There was a plan to have input device layers via binary addons but since it isn't done yet nothing happens so far.

I started writing a winlirc eventclient for XBMC, but just need the keymap stuff to work. Right now it seems to be hardcoded for joysticks and other stuff ?
WinLIRC, the Windows port of LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control):

Active development of the WinLIRC package:

dukey Wrote:winlirc support would be trivial, only need something to load a keymap and you are done. The code to do this is already there because it's compiled into the linux version.

Pull requests welcome.

jhsrennie: A good list of supported devices but again have to buy something I want to completely avoid.

My table is filled with various remote devices of which one separates and I want to use it as a master and wanted to replace all other remote devices. With Onkyo RC-765M from my Home theater receiver now I am able to control 4 different devices.

Мentioned earlier that I use Media Player Classic + WinLIRC without problem, just saying my opinion about WinLIRC and its great compatibility with huge number of existing devices without purchasing single thing.

Will be nice if you could make a program, Plug-in for XBMC something like Media Player Classic do with WinLIRC. I love simplicity, if you can't incorporate support in program, will be nice to be able to read commands from WinLIRC. Thanks
