Solved Raspberry 4 crashes with any HEVC file
#1
Maybe some newbie issue but searching the forum didn't reveal any solution (or I'm searching completely wrong)...
Trying to play a HEVC file with KODI -> KODI crashes and restarts. Sample file from here
x264 just plays fine all the time

Did I miss something to install? Currently a Raspberry Pi OS install with nothing except KODI and docker...
Sorry if this was answered before. Log File here.

Thanks in advance.

Increase gpu_mem to 320 in config.txt.

Does RPOS ship popcornmix's kodi?  That is been modified to playback HEVC, official Kodi has not.
Need help programming a Streamzap remote?

is that the maximum, or is there no point in going larger?

If you use Kodi's default skin 320Mb is enough and there is no performance improvement going higher, it is wasted RAM. Only with some really heavy skins you might need more.
And the need of setting GPU RAM will end in Kodi 19 on the RPi4.
