Greetings!

I have RetroPie 4.8 installed on a Raspberry Pi 3 (which comes with the Raspberry Pi OS Buster 32-bit and Kodi 18.7).

After a lot of tinkering, installing various dependency packages (including removing APT packages for certain libraries and installing them from source), I managed to get to the end of Kodi compiling, but it didn't run.

"ERROR: Unable to create GUI. Exiting."

In kodi.log: "CApplication::CreateGUI - unable to init windowing system"

Has anyone had success installing the new version of Kodi, from source, on this OS version?

Same here that is why I stuck on Kodi 18.7 but its working fine for me except on tv streaming a few minutes stop you need to enter again to play the streaming but it keeys stop after a few muntes.

You might be better asking that on the [Retropie Forums.

They package up Kodi as an addon, so it's not technically our distribution and so is outside our official support sphere.
