I remember the old xbox xbmc I used a couple of years ago had this feature where when the name of the movie was highlighted, a press of one of the game controller's button would automatically scrape and display info from IMDB.
Is there some way I can mimic this function with the current version of xmbc?

uh.. yes? by default it's mapped to 'i'.

Pressing "i" brings up the Set Content window, I have to select the directory, press OK, right click to bring up the context menu and select "Movie Information".
I guess my issue is that my movies are all on DVD data discs and cannot be easily added to the library.

yeah that would be it. usually you'd set the content on a directory and it applies recursively but i do not think that works for dvds
