Dvi --> hdmi
#1
Greetings all,

BACKGROUND
I have just gotten XBMC running on Ubuntu with a hardware accelerated video card. It connects to my LG plasma screen and when it first wakes up there is overscan, but all else works ok. It means that the menus are not visible. Note that my screen is not a 1920 * 1080 fancy screen, but ok never-the-less.

WORKAROUND
I googled "DVI HDMI XBMC" and found that it is a common problem. When you use the nvidia 'X-server settings' application you can 'interrogate' the plasma screen and save the details to a file and is called "edid.bin".

You then have to download a tool to convert this data to a text file, and then insert into the /etc/xorg.config file, (and do a little tweaking) the system then works beautifully

REQUEST
Can the XBMC have a 'link' or something so the less nerdy user can dynamically tweak this. If the screen overscans it is not usable, and it does seem to be a problem for many people
